Pair of blue and white Chinoiserie obelisks

Beschrijving

Each painted on two sides of the tapering square body with a Chinese man standing beside a lady seated beneath a balcony in which another lady is seated and holding a fan, and on the alternating sides with a Long Eliza figure standing before a garden fence and looking over her shoulder at a man seated beneath another seated figure at the open window of a pavilion, all beneath and above vignettes of a zotje (jumping boy), and surmounted by a teardrop-shaped finial painted with stiff leaves above a petal border repeated around the top of the ankle, the lower body robustly molded on each side with a scallop shell between scrolls against a blue ground reserved with scrolls and foliage, and the aring foot with a similar ground reserved on each side with a quatrefoil panel painted alternately with two zotjes by a garden fence or a lady seated before a pierced rock beneath a tree, and the footrim with a demi-ruyi-head border.
