It was made by Villeroy & Boch. I believe this is made somewhere in the 20th Century, either in Belgium or in Germany. The reproductions they made are always of a very high quality standard.

Maybe someone knows how to interpret the marks to a specific year and/or country?

Wonderful! So you found it is Nicolas Pilette then! (Belgique  1890-1919 ?)

Yes, I had seen the mark somewhere before but you know what its like with blue and white and delft and English Delft and who copied who etc. I do collect Oriental Pottery and Porcelain because I obviously love it and Historically it is interesting. All the best, Karin

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more
  • Hand-painted An important characteristic of authentic Delftware is that it is hand-painted. Printing techniques do not occur on this earthenware. Read more
  • Mark of a non-Delft pottery/factory The typical Delftware also inspires producers outside of Delft, but genuine Delftware has only been produced in Delft. Read more

Although from the front I at first thought that this was an authentic old dish (hence surely the many remarks from others), when as has been written one sees the mark, it is clearly a production of Boch Keramis/Boch Frères/Royal Boch (La Louvière, België). They were founded in 1841, but this vase is from around 1900.
